Between 2005 and 2006, in-depth excavations were carried out on a building from the former San Luca Hospital, located between Via San Paolino and Via del Crocifisso in Lucca. These investigations uncovered numerous ceramic fragments and a series of structures, one of which was identified by Giulio Ciampoltrini as a possible part of the corte marchionale (marquisal court) documented as early as 974. The study of the ceramic findings enabled a complete revision of the stratigraphic sequence and deepened the understanding of the area. However, it is not possible to state with certainty that the wall in question belonged to the center of marquisal power, as specific archaeological indicators for dating and inter- preting the structure are lacking.
