Introduzione

The project of an Archaeological Information System applied to urban archaeology in the city of Enna started in 2013 after the awarding of a post-grad research fellowship at the Kore University – has been enriched in recent years, thanks to its nature as an open and implementable platform, with new data from more recent preventive archaeology investigations conducted in the urban context. The integration of new data into the GIS has multiplied the analytical and querying potentials: this has led to a re-reading and reinterpretation of what had been conveyed by the history of archaeological research in Enna, and the development of a new hypothesis for the topographic map of the ancient city. The use of this system with the aim of predicting buried resources allows for the development of an Archaeological Potential Map, which is now a useful and essential tool for an archaeology that increasingly seeks to become an integral part of urban planning and, more generally, public works.
